Kitchen

In addition to a large assortment of second-hand candles, the kitchen is very well supplied.Kitchen is completely furnished with place settings, cooking utensils and basic spices. Refrigerator/freezer with a large capacity, a freestanding microwave, mixer, toaster and electric range will meet basic needs.

Bedrooms

During lazy days, resting or reading on the overstuffed lounges are most popular. Five BEDROOMS are fully functional in the cottage:
  # 1 Bedroom, adjacent to kitchen, has a queen-sized bed and is attached to bathroom with shower.
  # 2 Bedroom, overlooking forest, has queen bed and is adjacent to a very small half-bath.
  # 3 Bedroom, overlooking lake, has two twin beds.
  # 4 Bedroom upstairs has double-sized bed.
  # 5 Bedroom has three single bunks upstairs.
MORE sleeping areas may be possible, of necessity (as on the balcony, in the rear storage loft, or on floors by the fireplace) or for recreation (such as sleeping on the raft).
Also, the Adirondack Forest Preserve has a frequently used campsite available for tenting - it's located approximately 300 feet east of the cottage, alongside Green Lake.

Water Activities

Sailboat, canoe, kayaks, paddleboat and rowboat are included with cottage. Varieties of lifejackets are available. Written details of the different crafts are at the cottage. Raft is floating approximately 50 feet away from the dock.

WILDLIFE

Loons are long-lived, fish-eating birds on top of the aquatic food web. They are federally protected and a species of special concern in NYS. If you see a loon in distress, consider calling the Adirondack Loon Center @ 518-354-8636.

Directions

For typical GPS, use THIS address: "103 Old State Road, Caroga Lake 12032"

The formal, legal location of Happy Hollow is 1481 State Highway 10/29A
and is described as within the Town of Caroga Lake, 12032

DIRECTIONS do NOT link with GPS, Garmin, GoogleMaps or Mapquest-type directions to Klingbeils' Camp.
(Apologies for being off the grid of civilization.)
Consider a NAVIGATION SUBSTITUTE, and use the 'Canada Lake General Store' address
at  "103 Old State Road, Caroga Lake 12032"

Map above shows camp at the black pin, within the Adirondack Park line.
Camp is the only cottage on one-half of Green Lake.

Although it seems rather old-fashioned, consider
printing-out these final Directions to:

Klingbeils' Camp
1481 Route 10/29A

Within NY, these directions work well:

New York's Interstate 90 is also called the
Governor Thomas E. Dewey Thruway. Travel

from the EAST (~Schenectady, NY 12305) or
from the WEST (~Utica,NY 13501)

DIRECTIONS - Directions - DIRECTIONS - Directions:

Traveling I-90 from the WEST:

Exit 29 of NYS Thruway - Canjoharie (50 miles east of Utica);
then take

NY-10 North - travel across the Mohawk River from Canajoharie through the riverside village of

Palatine Bridge zig-zaging on NY-10, Left & Right, onto Lafayette Street, and a steep uphill rise about 1.9 miles to

Stone Arabia - then a sharp LEFT at Cook Corners; travel NY-10 about 5.8 miles to

Ephratah - continuing via NY-10 about 11.3 miles

Enter Adirondack Park and see many more evergreens - Continue to the main intersection of

Caroga village with a LEFT turn
onto NY-29A/NY-10 for 1.4 miles

(See ***CONTINUE*** below:)

Traveling I-90 from the EAST:

Exit 27 of NYS Thruway - Amsterdam;
(about 22 miles west of Schenectady);
take a RIGHT past the toll booths onto

Route 30 - North over the Mohawk River bridge, approaching downtown Amsterdam

Cross past the series of traffic lights and follow the signs to

Route 5 - WEST - Continuing west, more than 5 miles, past Amtrak Station & original Fort Johnson; at

Route 67 - turn RIGHT to the North; Ascend past village, farms & the Fulton-Montgomery Community College to

Johnstown. - At the traffic light turn RIGHT onto

Route 30 A - and continue past commercial areas toward

Gloversville - Prepare to turn LEFT off of Route 30 A, onto

Route 29 A - North traveling thru downtown Gloversville. Begin ascending, out of town. Enter the

Adirondack Park at the brown sign and see many evergreens

Pecks Lake - will appear on the RIGHT after entering the Adirondack Park;

(See ***CONTINUE*** below:)

***CONTINUE*** driving through:

Caroga Lake village is centered at the old Sherman’s Amusement Park. The village is the beginning of the combined State Routes 10 & 29A going North;

(It’s now 3 miles or 5 minutes to the Cottage.) Drive past

Wheelerville and the Nick Stoner Golf Course. As you ascend in elevation again, see sign for

Pinnacle Restaurant driveway on Right (restaurant may or may not be a viable business now). This is a high peak on the road.
Begin descending the highway; see prominent rocky sides of the mountain.

On right see diamond-shaped sign for

PEDESTRIAN AHEAD

Your DESTINATION on the Right is a subtle GAP in highway guard rail.

The DRIVEWAY is in the GAP between wire rope and square steel guardrail.

The DRIVEWAY on Right also has a new yellow-on brown address "1481" at the guard rail.

The DRIVEWAY  is simply the GAP between guardrails.

(Meaning, you can't see the DRIVEWAY - it is is simply a GAP.)

Beyond the DRIVEWAY see sign for
    |    Green Lake     |
    |   Canada Lake   |
off in the distance, off the 'square-steel tubing' guardrail.

Drive downward slowly - PARKING next to the cottage is tight but possible for four cars on the right.
or otherwise
Drive onto the highway shoulder -  PARKING is easy and open for a dozen cars.  You can see the little wooden sign that announces
" Happy Hollow "
then walk down the driveway to the cottage.

Whoops! . . . . .THAT was quick!

If you drive past the driveway, Continue on 10/29A. Quickly pass beyond the green sign for
      Green Lake
      Canada Lake
Ahead there’s the

CANADA LAKE GENERAL STORE

about 1150 feet further on the LEFT.
(They stock essentials, sell espresso and have an old-fashioned phone booth, since cell phones and mountains mix poorly.)

You can U-turn around their parking lot and try the driveway again, OR call folks at the cottage.

Welcome!

2023: Bi-Weekly Schedule, by Sister
Please also note the various bottom tabs, which are sub-titled as worksheets describing recent & upcoming years:
2020, 2021, 2022, x, 2024, 2025, 2026, 2027, 2028, 2029, etc.

Worksheet titled: 2020-2029 describes an overview pattern of
Annually Alternating Weekly Schedules,
by Sister, 2020 through 2030

Each of the Klingbeil sisters has plans for their pair of two summertime weeks at Camp. These dates alternate annually, so that during the coming years, a mix of Adirondack weeks are fairly allocated among the sisters and their dynamic families.

Extended Klingbeil cousins, family, friends of the sisters and many others have used time at the Cottage, by arrangement with the individual sister.

Green Lake, Canada Lake and Caroga Lake are all within NY's ‘forever wild’ Adirondack Forest Preserve.
Klingbeils’ Camp is the only parcel on half of Green Lake, bordering a tract with the Adirondack Forest Preserve, below Bear Mountain.  Here is a view, looking south from Green Lake Road:
